Creating a magical universe.

Welcome to the first post of Magical Oddities — a blog inspired by the fantasy newspaper of the world of Pargonea.

I wanted to start posting updates here because, over the years, I’ve talked about this book and shared art from the world I’m building called Rune X. Rune X is a fusion of my first comic book, Xq28 (created back in 2016), and a later project I began writing a book called Rune. Over time, those ideas merged into a single, larger world called Rune X.

It’s not easy to get people invested in characters they know nothing about—especially when the actual story isn’t out yet and all you’re seeing are pretty images, lol. Like anything, turning nothing into something is both exciting and challenging, especially when you’re building the entire thing on your own while juggling a nine-to-five job.

My hope is that this blog will give you a deeper look into what I’m working on beyond the occasional random post, and provide some real background and context for the world. Recently, I’ve gone through several character design changes, which meant going back and redrawing pages, along with script revisions that I’ve already completed. That said, the first book is finally coming together, and as a whole, it’s on track to launch online in 2026.

I’m highlighting two characters that have major role effects on the story as a whole.

First is Surwich, the leader of the Black Coven, whose design has evolved slightly over the years and has only recently been finalized.

Next is a character long known throughout development as Brad LionHeart, now renamed Atticus. This character underwent minimal changes, primarily to skin tone and pigmentation, while the core design remained largely the same.

As a lifelong fan of magic and worlds built around it, I’m always questioning how to present it in a way that feels uniquely my own. A story can be anything you want it to be—and that’s where the fun truly begins.

Rune X is set in a world forever altered by the impact of a comet, later revealed to be an ancient tablet drifting through the cosmos. This single event set into motion the rise of a new civilization—one in which beings discovered magic and ultimately became divided by it. Now, strange forces stir in the shadows, and old enemies seek greater power to rule the realms once more.

Set in a sci-fantasy age, these beings—known as Wizerds—have mastered magic and harnessed its very essence to power strange and wondrous technology.

If you’re drawn to themes found in X-Men, Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, or The Fifth Element, this series may be right up your alley.

Below are a few sample pages from Rune X, presented without dialogue.

Here’s a sneak peek at more rough draft pages from Book Two. While nothing is finalized, these pages should give you a sense of the direction.
